For someone living with Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP), there is no simple way to take the burden off.

FOP is an ultra-rare genetic disorder in which bone forms where it should not—within muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues. Over time, that extra bone can progressively restrict movement and turn ordinary parts of life into difficult terrain. Falls, injuries, injections, and other physical trauma can also be serious concerns for people with FOP.

That is what the skeleton and the unforgiving landscape in this design represent.

The 25-pound ruck represents the weight carried by people with FOP and their families.

The 20-mile road represents a journey measured not in a single difficult day, but in years of adapting, persevering, and hoping for better treatments.

The warning signs remind us that for someone with FOP, there truly are “NO EASY ROADS.”

And the skeleton keeps walking because this event is ultimately about something bigger than hardship: forward movement.

We will carry the weight for 20 miles because we want more people to know the name FOP. We want conversations to start. We want families affected by this disease to know that others are willing to stand beside them.
